Combining two different coating agents
to achieve superior waterproofing at a lower cost

We received a request from Company A for "improving waterproof properties of electronic boards used under severe conditions.”
While waterproof properties can be improved by applying a thick coat of a coating agent, this option was not viable due to weight and cost restrictions.
After consulting with various material manufacturers, the client was still unable to get the desired results.

We therefore invited them to the F-Lab where we searched together for a solution by repeatedly conducting coating and salt water testing.
After a succession of trials and errors, we came up with the idea of using two different coating agents depending on the part to be protected.
By also proposing an optimal coating method, we managed to achieve the levels of waterproofing and cost the client desired.
We were able to meet out client’s requests by proposing coating methods that are usually the domain of clients and coating machine manufacturers.

Developing an innovative coating agent resistant to all oils

We were requested by Company B to develop a coating agent for oil-proofing electronic boards.
Since they could not disclose the composition of the specific oil due to confidentiality concerns, what was needed was an as-of-yet-undeveloped, versatile product that would be resistant to several dozens of different oils.
We therefore reviewed oligomeric structure, mixed various coating agents and repeatedly tested their performance.
After countless trials and errors, we managed to complete a product that could pass all oil resistance tests.

However, the work of Fuji Chemical Industrial did not end there.
Using the F-Lab's equipment, we also provided information on optimal coating programs and curing conditions.
By assessing in advance whether the new coating agent could be used at the client’s facilities and how it could be best applied, we were able to save our client precious time and efforts, allowing them to efficiently introduce it on the market, for which we received high praise.

Solving problems with proposals that go beyond the expertise of material manufacturers by modifying production equipment to coat special shapes

Company C was looking for a coating agent that could be applied to electronic components in an upright position.
We first considered meeting their request by changing the coating agent but we could not find in our current lineup a product that would not drip under the effect of gravity.

We therefore changed our approach and wondered whether it would be possible to modify the processes and equipment used at the client's production line.
In cooperation with the equipment manufacturer, we developed a new equipment to irradiate UV light immediately after the coating agent is applied, and succeeded in hardening it before it could drip.
We were able to put into practice this idea because we had collected knowledge and information by selecting equipment from the client's perspective and had established a working relationship with equipment manufacturers.
While this kind of request would have been difficult to fulfill by a material manufacturer alone, we were able to achieve results that satisfied our client by trying to solve the problem through a variety of approaches.
